Bombastic - Getting Started

About Bombastic

Bombastic’s goal is to provide a curated experience and a consolidated platform for the expanded Giant Bomb community.

Bombastic retrieves data from YouTube for selected video game media creators. This not only creates a simplified cross-channel search view, but also allows for the creation of custom playlists that can contain content from multiple YouTube channels. Bombastic’s watch tracking feature allows users to easily resume watching videos and playlists where they previously left off.

Features

Bombastic is available for free. An account is required to use all features except for search.

Account Management

Creating a Bombastic account grants you access to all features. An account can be created through Bombastic, or you can log in with an existing Discord account. If you create a Bombastic account via email, you can link a Discord account later. Linking a Discord account will update your user avatar on Bombastic to match your Discord avatar.

Account settings can be found by clicking on your avatar in the upper right corner and selecting “Settings”. The following options are available in the settings menu:

  • Update your email address
  • Update your username
  • Reset your password
  • Link your Discord account
  • Delete your account

If you delete your account, all data associated with the account, including playlists created by the account, will be deleted.

Selected Creators

The list of selected creators is managed by Bombastic, users are unable to add additional creators. Each creator page contains a link to directly support the creator and their content. The list of creators in the left-hand navigation can be reordered by dragging and dropping the creator to the desired location in the list.

When a creator is live-streaming on Twitch, a red dot will appear on their thumbnail in the left-hand navigation; clicking the creator will take you to their creator page with a view of their live Twitch stream.

Browsing Videos - Card and Table Views

Bombastic supports two views: Card and Table. The views can be switched by clicking the Card or Table icon in the upper right of the navigation bar.

Card is the default view. It makes it easier to browse videos by providing larger video thumbnails and an action menu dropdown on each card. Card view does not support selecting multiple videos; if you’re adding videos to a playlist, they must be added to the playlist one at a time.

Table view is only available to users with accounts or on smaller screens. Table view supports selecting multiple videos or rows; due to this, videos need to be double-clicked in order to play. Alternatively, there is a Play button column on the left of each row which can be clicked once to view the video. Selecting multiple videos can be done by holding down Ctrl/Cmd to select non-adjacent rows and Shift to select all inclusive rows. Multiple rows can be dragged and dropped. Once videos are selected, the actions menu can be displayed by right-clicking, or by accessing the dropdown in the heading section.

Search Functionality

Searching for videos or playlists can be done using the input in the top navigation bar. Searches will return results from the titles and descriptions of videos and playlists. Any playlists that you own will not show in your view of the search results. Search result links can be copied and sent to others.

Playlist Management

Up to 25 playlists can be associated with your account. Each playlist can contain up to 100 videos.

Playlists can be public or private. Public playlists are searchable by all users whereas private playlists are solely visible to you. Only owners of playlists are able to add or remove videos from it, as well as manage the Custom sort order. If you follow a public playlist, you can select from the “Sort by” options to set how you want to watch the videos in the playlist.

If a public playlist is deleted, direct links to the playlist will be usable for 2 weeks, but the playlist will not show up in search results. Users that are following the playlist will receive a notification that the playlist has been deleted. During this time, users can make their own copies of the playlist before it is permanently deleted. To copy the playlist, users will need to create a new playlist, then add the videos to their new playlist.

To update the playlist thumbnail, navigate to the playlist page and find the video thumbnail you want to use as the playlist thumbnail. Right-click on the video and select “Set as playlist image”. After the image is set, you can then go to the Edit Playlist menu to zoom or crop the thumbnail image.

Watch Tracking

When you stop watching a video (either by pausing, navigating to a different page, or closing the browser tab) your progress is automatically saved. The video will now show up in your “Continue Watching” queue at the top of the Bombastic homepage. At the end of the video, the video will be marked as “Watched”.

Playlists will automatically track where you are in the playlist. Clicking the play button on a playlist’s page will automatically resume the playlist at the next video that is not yet marked as “Watched”. If you change the sort order of the playlist after some videos have been watched, the play will resume at the first video in the new sort order that is not yet marked as “Watched”.
